How we started
In 2013 we met together and decided to revolutionize beekeeping in Tanzania. AfriLife was established with the aim of supporting the life of people through African Natural Resources. The founders met 12 years ago while both working for Forever Living Products (an American-based Company), which sells nutritional products including bee products. The founders had always wanted to build a business around a product that can be produced by local rural communities and that has healthy and environmental benefits to rural and urban people. Based on this vision, honey became our strategic choice.
Our Vision
Envisions smallholder beekeepers who are freed from poverty and have long lasting solutions to beekeeping problems.
Our Mission
To Empower smallholder beekeepers economically and technically by promoting modern beekeeping methodology and technology.
What we do for you
The company is addressing the problem of Moyowosi-Kigosi forest deforestation due to ongoing detrimental human activities in and around the forest. These activities include cutting of trees for charcoal, farming, and making traditional log hives. This situation has led to land degradation. Also, it is estimated that deforestation is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions in the area. These greenhouse gasses have contributed to changes in patterns of rainfall and weather.
Our Solution
Afrilife promotes modern beekeeping in villages surrounding the Moyowosi-Kigosi forest which covers an area of 2.1 million hectares and where wildlife still roam freely. This involves changing beekeepers from using traditional log hives into modern Top-bar hives. These hives are easy to work with for both youth and women and produce more honey. Also, the company facilitates beekeepers to establish “Bee Forest Farms” in their villages. In addition, the company facilitates the formation of Honey Marketing Associations and training on modern beekeeping and entrepreneurship skills.
